Dear fellow animal lovers and animal rights activists,
We are writing to you from Hong Kong.
Here in Hong Kong, under the anti-extradition bill movement, animal welfare has been severely affected. We ask for help in spreading this message to others and to raise the awareness of animal rights and welfare in Hong Kong.
Since June, Hong Kong has been under a social movement started by an extradition bill. There’ve been protests every weekend in every district. The Hong Kong police continually used, at an alarming level, different chemical weapons like tear gas and pepper spray. Police service dogs for example, have been forced to be on duty without any protection while being in areas completely cloudied with toxic tear gas. There’re photos and videos showing the panic and the extreme discomfort the dogs are suffering through while in these areas. The HK police not only ignored such harms to their canine counterparts but in a press conference even refused to acknowledge that gas masks for dogs even exist. Alarmingly, HKPF has stopped releasing the number of police dog deaths in recent years.
What’s more, Hong Kong Police fired more than 6000 tear gas in these 6 months, many stray dogs and cats, and even the pets dogs and cats are all severely affected as reported by local vets. On 12, November, Hong Kong Police fired over 1000 tear gas canisters in Chinese University of Hong Kong, which is located in Ma Liu Shui, a rural area in Hong Kong. These tear gas disturbed the natural habitats, and many dead bodies of the beautiful birds which habitate around the wooded area were found.
We, as animal lovers and activists, are outraged at such mistreatment of our animal friends. We are hereby requesting help in spreading this message to others in hope that the raised awareness can stop such dangerous behaviors. This is beyond politics, animal lives are at stake.
Thats what we call (“kutti nazar”) 🧿
