Whichever way you cut it, this world of ours is a mess. Here in Britain we have vitriol and bile aplenty as families, communities and, seemingly the country as a whole, polarise on one side or other of the #Leave
arguments in the #Brexit
debacle. In the US there is a President whose narrative seems intent on stirring hatred and discontent. And that's just two of many similar examples of man turning against man. And for what? Do we even know how we ended up here?⠀
But here's the thing with the pursuit of your real life: vitriol, hatred and bile have no place in it. Quarrel and division do not belong in it. And there is no space for a polarised view, for your view is all-encompassing. In the pursuit of your best self, rise above self-serving politicians and seek opportunities to heal the wounds, and to build up rather than destroy. Find the common ground - no, not the middle ground, the common ground - and start there. Look for similarities, not differences. Look for dialogue, not argument.⠀
You know that life is an ever-unfolding adventure, and what demands attention today will be forgotten tomorrow (though its consequences may live on). So, focus on your adventure and, as you move deeper into the pursuit of becoming your best self, set a new standard - a standard based on integrity, truth, reason and grace, and let's drive mankind towards that confederation of mutual trust and respect that Eisenhower so boldly called for.
