white ball + white ball (let loop... at least twice) I realize this is coming in later than my usual posting time, so I hope nobody was waiting around. Apologies, if so. I want to say this was a labor of love, but to be honest, it was more like a labor of hate, sweat and the heebie-jeebies. Mostly because of the whole crawling around in roach infested sewers part of the project. And to be accurate, it wasn’t a sewer, it was a storm drain... a seriously roach infested storm drain. I had to reshoot it three times, on three different occasions, which just meant extra “Stephen and the roaches time”. Sadly I never made friends with the roaches. I guess it was a friendship that was never meant to be. Then there was some accompanying physical pain from staying in a constant hunched position on the putting green... where old men constantly asked what I was up to. They thought I had some special putting technique that I was attempting to master and then I had to disappoint them with the truth. I never even brought up the roaches. And now is when I’d normally complain about a bunch of the other stuff, but I’m gonna keep it positive and acknowledge the fact that I sank that putt. That and it’s time for this nightmare inducing #combophoto to sail. And a big thank you to @heffe_cashman for the use of his putter... and ball. #shotoniphone
water balloon + egg You’re looking at a last minute... I’m not actually sure what this is... edit, I guess? It’s not a #combophoto per se, but at least it’s something, and right now I’m in hot pursuit of something over nothing. I’m really trying to carve out some time to get more stuff out there, but time is proving to be pretty hard to carve these days. ⚡️♥️⚡️#shotoniphone
car + skateboard Commissioned by @Apple  Thank you @apple for supporting my ongoing need to combine things with other things. And before you ask, this is just a prototype, but if we play our cards right, the Skatecar may end up being just the alternative means of transportation we’ve all been waiting for. If we’re lucky. #shotoniPhone #WorldCarFreeDay . . . and yes, if you know me, you know how much this meant to me. #grateful
guitar + bridge #tbt to that magical weekend when the whole family schlepped our butts up to New York so I could hang out of a helicopter to take a photo of a bridge. Slightly excessive, but totally worth it. #combophoto
tap + bottle + can + toast (repeat) Raising a chilled glass of refreshing #tbt to all the fine folks back in Colorado that helped us turn this infinitely looping #combophoto into... um... an infinitely looping combophoto... or video... or whatever we want to call it? I was gonna try #videothatcombinesthings , but it felt long, unnecessarily descriptive and kinda flat. So if you can think of something better... go nuts. @brewersassoc, thank you again for bringing @ryanhayslip and I on board to help make it happen. 🙏🏻
hose + waterfall I may or may not be in a 4th grade parents orientation, so we’re all gonna pretend this is some pressing work business that needs my immediate attention. If you keep reading, just know you’re in it now. If I get in trouble, we all get in trouble. Let’s begin... This is a three year old #tbt and very much a family affair. Okay, roll call: Playing the part of the hand is my beautiful hand model wife @lmcm2 (who also doubles as a face model). The dude holding my daughter is my brother in law, aka: Uncle Bryan... and pulling up the rear is my youngest daughter isla. This definitely goes down as one of my more memorable shoots. I’ll spare you the details, but everyone pulled it together to make it happen. It was plagued by logistical challenges, technical challenges and physical challenges. My brother in law definitely got the short end of the stick, as he was the one that had to stand in that water the longest. I can’t speak to the actual feeling of how cold that water was, but I know Bryan and Isla talk about it to this day. Not fondly. More in a PTSD sort of way. Headline: sounds like it was pretty cold. And though my oldest (@ab.anna_belle) didn’t appear in the final image, she worked behind the scenes keeping everyone in line (as she’s prone to do). Oh and there was a run-in with a Bear, but the aforementioned 4th grade orientation is over and I’m walking out of here. I really don’t think anyone noticed so I think we’re cool. Let’s save the bear story for when I post this again three years from now. See you guys in 2022. #combophoto
desert + back Just imagine all the hilarious dry skin related comedy that could’ve been said about this one. seriously, imagine it... (your imagination goes here)... and even though dry skin humor rarely disappoints... I’m in a bit of a rush to pick up a kid from gymnastics... so that’s about all the time we have for that. #OverUseOfEllipses #combophoto
bald eagle + banana (AKA: Uncle Toucan Sam) Ahh, the mighty and majestic Bald Eagle, chosen as the national symbol of the United States of America in 1782 because of its beauty, great strength, long life and possibly for its yellow nose (can’t confirm that last one, but I have my suspicions). Ahh, the South American banana, chosen for this #combophoto for no reason other than its coloration, beak matching properties and elegant curvature. History research side note (ripped from the pages of Wikipedia): Contrary to popular legend, there is no evidence that Benjamin Franklin ever publicly supported the wild turkey, rather than the bald eagle, as a symbol of the United States. However, in a letter written to his daughter in 1784 he stated his personal distaste for the bald eagle. In the letter Franklin states: “For my own part. I wish the bald eagle had not been chosen the representative of our country. He is a bird of bad moral character. He does not get his living honestly ... besides he is a rank coward: The little king bird not bigger than a sparrow attacks him boldly and drives him out of the district.” -Benjamin Franklin Okay, class dismissed!
putting + driving. “Drive for show... putt for dough.” -My Dad Was my dad the author of that quote? Yes, yes he was. I mean, he said once when I was younger, so I just assume he’s the only person that’s ever said that and he probably would have told me otherwise. Let me know if you’ve heard differently, but for now, he owns it... My Dad 2019®... damn, and now it’s legal. I think? #combophoto #golf
flamingo + float (Serving suggestion: sound on 🔈) Okay, I know, there’s no line, it’s not a standard issue combo, nor is it a photo... and though technically this post may not possess the immediately recognizable accoutrements of your garden variety #combophoto , I assure you, the pieces are all there. And here’s the story... For a few years now, I’ve really wanted to learn After Effects, which is Adobe’s video fx editing software, and though it’s an amazing program, it intimidates the hell out of me and it’s not an easy one to learn, not for a 46 year old, or a 26 year old. Anyway, this simple little flamingo on flamingo idea popped in my head last Thursday and I naively thought I could make something happen in a coupe of hours. Ya know, so I’d have something for my Thursday post? but then I quickly realized how inept I was at After Effects. so I plopped my old man ass in a chair, fired up the computer and slowly started to lose my mind. Just a little. I mean, I’m writing this, so I think I’m making my way back. So after four days of frustration, disorientation and a fatal computer failure... I can hold my head high knowing that I made a 6 second video clip of a inanimate rubber flamingo combined with a living breathing flamingo. It’s not exactly the way I wanted it, but I also wanted something to post tonight. Ya know, since it’s Thursday again. Side note: I think I like the sound design more than the actual video. I recommend giving that a listen. Hopefully moving forward, the kinks will be worked out and I’ll have more stuff like this down the road. #flamingos #flamingo
banana + hammock You’ll all be happy to know, I still enjoy a tasty banana and a comfortable hammock from time to time, but rarely do those two things ever get combined. I’m sure some of you are like... uh, what about banana hammocks? I hear you, and though they are a perfectly respectable form of underpanting, that’s just one thing, not two things. That’s what we do around here... we combine things. I mean, not always, but usually. And here we are, that rare day is upon us once again, that extra special day when bananas and hammocks come together and live harmoniously as one. #combophoto
car + fireworks Or should it be “car + firework”... singular? Or “car on a bridge + firework”? Or “car on a bridge over water + firework”? Screw it, let’s stick with “car + firework”... so ignore all the other stuff I just wrote and bring your eyes down here for the start of this post. Happy 4th Americans! Perspective note: I recently became friends with @dheeraj.govindraju from India and he was quick to reaffirm what I hope most of us already know... we’re fortunate AF to experience the level of freedom SO MANY HUMANS around the world never get to experience!!! We aren’t perfect, but we have freedom! Drink it up! And Dheeraj, glad you’re with us my friend!⚡️♥️⚡️ #combophoto #4thofjuly
